Week 7 Swim Team News (June 23-29)

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK: Our swimmers of the week are: James Thomasson (7U), and Amelia Farrell (6U). James did an awesome job in practice this week as well as stepping up and swimming all 6 events at the meet. Amelia put a lot of effort into listening to her coaches and improving her strokes. Swimmers of the week receive a gift card in recognition for their hard work. Congratulations James and Amelia!

COACH'S CORNER:

  • Coach Allie: Hey everyone, I was so happy with how we did at this week's meet! I am so proud of everyone who swam up on relays, as well as all of our individual performances. This week we will work on improving our butterfly and breaststroke. TODAY is also the deadline to sign up for Cary City Meet. I highly encourage everyone to attend, it was always my favorite part of the swim season. As always, if you have any questions or concerns you can reach me at [email protected].
  • Coach Sophia: Hello parents! Although I was not here this past week I heard that the swimmers did great and I’m proud of everyone who swam at the meet on tuesday. Unfortunately, I will be out longer than expected, and I will be returning to coach Monday, June 30. The swimmers worked on improving all three strokes this past week and will continue to do so next week. I would like to shout out Maggie Lowther for beating the record that she set last week at this past swim meet! Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at [email protected]!
  • Coach Lilly: Hi everyone! As I was not here last week, I am super excited to get back in the water with our swamp pups! We will continue our practice with freestyle and getting comfortable in the water this week. If you have any questions or concerns, I am always happy to help at [email protected].

MEET RESULTS AND RECORDS: You can find the meet results in the Swimtopia app, and a PDF report is also available on our website, under past events.

  • 6U Maggie Lowther 13.79 backstroke beat her record from last week (14.10)
  • 11-12 Taylor Weiner 29.77 backstroke beat her record from last week (30.21)

PLEASE CHECK THE TEAM COMMUNICATIONS BOX: Ribbons from swim meets are all in the black Team Communications Box. The Box lives in the Swamp Shack and can sometimes be found on the pool deck during practices. Parents should try to check the box at least once a week during the swim season. Thank you!

CARY CITY MEET: The annual Cary City Invitational Meet will be on Saturday July 12th at Cary Swim Club. This is a great tradition for our Swampfoxxes where we compete not just in the swim meet, but for the Spirit Award for decorating out tent and bringing the most team spirit. This year's theme is HARRY POTTER and the coaches are designing shirts for all (swimmers and parents) to purchase!

  • REGISTRATION ENTRIES and T SHIRTS ORDERS ARE DUE by 10p on MONDAY JUNE 23 (TODAY!!) at https://oxxfordhunt.swimtopia.com/cary-city-meet. Take these steps:
  • Swimmers ages 6 & Under may register for no more than two individual events. Please note that all 6&Unders must swim 25 yards independently.

  • We’d love your help and ideas decorating and getting ready for a fun day full of swim!

NEXT HOME MEET: Our third meet is at home this Tuesday June 24. The Meet Theme is: Hawaiian

  • Arrive at 4:45pm to check in your swimmer, get settled, swimmers numbered and meet volunteers sign in (even if you are 2nd shift). Warmups will begin at 5:00pm sharp. Meet will start no later than 6p
  • If you are a timer, clerk of course, stroke and turn judge, order of finish judge, TSA rep, or meet admin for either shift, please attend the officials meeting at 5:45p.
  • Please walk or carpool to save parking spaces for our guests. Consider parking on Trappers Run to leave Fallsworth and parking lot for the other team.
  • Remember that OXH pool rules apply during swim meets. The pool is CLOSED except to swim meet events. No one should be in the deep or shallow end.
  • Heat sheets will be on display on a board at the meet showing the lane and heat that each swimmer will be in. Please check relays in addition to individual events. Swimmers might swim in a relay of an older age group when there are not enough swimmers in that age group to make a team of 4.
  • If your swimmer’s status has changed (especially if they planned to swim and no longer can), please let us know ASAP. Coach Allie ([email protected]) and Coach Sophia ([email protected]) need to adjust the heat sheets and having as much time as possible to do that is very helpful. You can copy the board ([email protected]) so that we can try to get heat sheets updated before they are printed. Please communicate with a coach if you need to leave, or your swimmer can no longer participate in event(s) planned.
  • Food and concessions: On meet day we offer special food items in addition to what is normally sold in concessions including Dominos pizza, Chick-fil-A sandwiches, and Smoothie King smoothies.

MEET VOLUNTEERS: We ask that if you have a swimmer competing, at least one parent plans to volunteer at each swim meet. We want all families to do their part to help. There are a few jobs still open for this Tuesday's meet including kid pushers, concessions, starter, and order of finish judge. If you have a swimmer competing, please sign up for a volunteer position. Contact Katie Richards ([email protected]) if you need to change your volunteer position or have any questions. During meets, please check in for your job with Katie before the meet begins, even if you are working a 2nd shift job. We need to ensure there is coverage for all positions at the start of the meet.

MARK SWIMMER AVAILABILITY: It is important for all swimmers to declare their attendance (select meet entry for each meet online) for meets. This should always be done at least one week prior to a meet so the coaches can properly plan the heat sheets and minimize changes. The next meet is a week from Tuesday, so please mark your swimmer for the meet by this Tuesday. Attendance will close on Friday 6/27 for the meet Tuesday 7/1.

SWIM CLINICS: The coaches are hosting 3 Saturday morning (9-10a) swim clinics for swimmers interested in improving their dives and turns, butterfly technique and breaststroke technique. All age groups are welcome! The cost is $5 (cash only), to be brought the morning of the clinic. Advanced registration (available now on Swimtopia) is encouraged so coaches can plan accordingly.

  • Saturday June 28: Butterfly Technique
  • Saturday July 5: Breaststroke Technique

WEDNESDAY MORNING MOVIES WITH THE SWIM TEAM: Join us for $1 summer movies with your teammates at Regal Crossroads! We'll meet at the theater 30 minutes before showtime. If your swimmer needs a ride, just let the coaches know — we’re happy to help. See you at the movies!
