Swamp Pups Program
SWAMP PUPS PROGRAM
The goal of our Swamp Pups program is for the children to be comfortable and safe in the water and develop a basic stroke in order to participate on the team in the near future (possibly the current season). It also introduces Oxxford Hunt families to the Swampfoxx Swim Team
- If you are confident your child cannot swim 15 yards (a little over half the length of the pool), he/she will be registered as a Swamp Pup
- Your child must be ready and willing to get in and put their face under water
- Your child will begin Swamp Pups lessons on June 1
- Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 5:30-6:00pm
- Runs through the end of the season
- If you are unsure if your child will be able to swim 15 yards after some practice, he/she will be registered as Swampfoxx Swimmer
- The child will participate and be evaluated in regular 6 and Under daily practices the first several weeks. Coaches will invite swimmers who are unable to swim 15 yards to join our Swamp Pups program already in progress - which is still part of our team!!
- Starting on 6/1 we will be offering Swamp Pups a 30-minute semi-private lesson, on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:30-6:00. We will provide the opportunity for Swamp Pups to get in the water twice a week through the end of the season. Swamp Pups are able to attend two lessons each week, and we ask that parents select their day preferences during registration. This will allow us to keep the Pups engaged throughout the lesson and spend more time in the water
- Swamp Pups are invited to participate in Fun Friday swim practices the first Friday in June and July and other team social functions and events! Come have fun and get to know their teammates some more!
- There will be a Swamp Pups exhibition at our final home meet of the season where the swimmers will get to experience being part of the meet and swim the freestyle stroke if they choose. A celebration for all of their hard work!
Cost:
$100 for the season
FAQs:
How are the lessons structured?
Pups will work on skills such as kicking, arm strokes, floating, blowing bubbles, diving for coins or objects or other small games. Kickboards and other tools might be used
Do parents have to attend?
Yes. Parents do not have to be in the pool but should stay close by in case a pup needs a bathroom trip, etc.
What are the prerequisites?
Pups should be comfortable getting in the water, putting his/her face in the water, and wearing goggles. They will also need to listen and follow directions, especially for water safety. (Taking turns, etc.)
What if my pup learns to swim quickly? Can he/she join the daily 6 and under practices?
Yes!
My child has never done swim lessons before. Is the coach able to handle young/inexperienced children?
Yes- the Swamp Pups coach has been with the team for a number of years and coaches the 6 and under swimmers. Additionally, other assistant coaches help out based on numbers. It’s a low pressure environment
