Swim Team News Week 10 (July 13-19)
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK: Our swimmers of the week are: Alison Zappia (7U), Wade Richards (6U), and Olivia Rivas Rivera (pup). Alison has been a great addition to this team! She always has a smile on her face, cheers on her teammates, and did great this weekend representing our team. Wade pushes himself every practice, stepped up numerous times to swim up in relays, and is constantly putting a smile on everyone’s face! Olivia always tries her best during practices and is kind to all of her teammates (and coaches)!
Swimmers of the week receive a gift card in recognition for their hard work. Congratulations Alison, Wade, and Olivia!
COACH'S CORNER:
- Coach Allie: Hey Swampfoxxes! This season has been so amazing and as we ride the high of Cary City into our last meet of the season I cannot express how proud and excited I am for our athletes. Your swimmers have contributed an environment of support, fun, and hard work that has led us to winning the spirit award and the majority of our meets. I am excited to spend these last two days of practice with them and I encourage you to join us on Monday for our swamp pups race. The athletes should come prepared to cheer for our future Swampfoxxes at 5:50p tonight (Monday 7/13)! Please reach out with questions at [email protected]. Thank you for everything you do, I will see you at the pool :)
- Coach Sophia: Hello everyone! I want to start out by saying that I’m so proud of everyone who showed up to Cary City this past Saturday, regardless of whether they were swimming or not. Everyone was in high spirits despite the heat and did a great job swimming and keeping the energy up, which all contributed to us winning the spirit award! This upcoming week will be the last week of practice, with our last practice on Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, I will be at orientation for our last few practices, but I will be able to make it to the meet! I hope to see a lot of swimmers show up to our last swim meet and to the banquet on Friday. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at [email protected]!
- Coach Lilly: Hi parents! I can’t believe that this was already our last full week of practices, but the Swamp Pups did amazing, as always! Our last practice will be tonight, Monday July 13th, and I invite everyone to participate, even if Mondays are not your designated days for practice. Thank you to all of the families that showed up at our swim meet this week; I’m sorry that the weather couldn’t hold out for us to have our exhibition, but we won’t give up the opportunity that easily! Tonight (Monday July 13) we will hold a make-shift swim meet specifically for the Swamp Pups at the end of practice! Please note the following details:
- We will have a normal freestyle practice from 5:30-5:45 for all Pups.
- The older swimmers will pause their practice at 5:45 to cheer for the Pups who will race at 5:50.
- Swamp Pups do not have to participate in the race if they don’t want to! Those who do race will have a coach with them in the lane to help them the whole way, and they will receive participation ribbons at the end!
- All Swamp Pups (even if they don’t race) will get popsicles at the end of “practice”!
I hope to see you all there for our last practice/meet exhibition and our swim team banquet later this week! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to [email protected]!
FINAL PRACTICES: Practices will be held Monday evening and Tuesday morning this week (July 13-14). The final swim meet on Tuesday is the end of the summer swim team practices.
NEXT MEET! Our sixth and final meet is this Tuesday July 14 at Regency Riptides! The Meet Theme is: Alice in Wonderland!
- Arrive by 5:15pm to get settled, swimmers numbered and meet volunteers sign in (even if you are 2nd shift).
- Address: 101 Killingsworth Drive, Cary, NC 27518 (Located off Penny Rd)
- Parking: The pool parking lot is available to our team. Additional parking will be along Killingsworth Drive and Royal Glen Drive, but only on the side opposite of fire hydrants. There is additional parking at the Danbury neighborhood pool parking lot, located directly across Penny Rd, off Tattenhall Drive.
- Concessions: Regency will have a cash only concession stand with pizza, snacks, candy, soda, sparkling water, and bottled water. The concession stand cannot accept bills larger than $20.
- Seating: Visiting teams will use the right hand side of the pool deck as you enter (side opposite of starting blocks). There are large, round tables and umbrellas but you may want to bring extra seating and/or tents for shade. There are overflow areas outside of the pool if we want to spread out. (Looking at pool door from parking lot, overflow is to the right side). Additional chairs/benches/tents, etc. may only be used on the right hand side of the pool deck. Items cannot be placed in a way that prevents swimmers, timers, judges, etc. from getting from one end of the pool to the other.
- Heat sheets will be on display on a board at the meet showing the lane and heat that each swimmer will be in. Please check relays in addition to individual events. Swimmers might swim in a relay of an older age group when there are not enough swimmers in that age group to make a team of 4.
- If your swimmer’s status has changed (especially if they planned to swim and no longer can), please let us know ASAP. Coach Allie ([email protected]) and Coach Sophia ([email protected]) need to adjust the heat sheets and having as much time as possible to do that is very helpful. You can copy the board ([email protected]) so that we can try to get heat sheets updated before they are printed. Please communicate with a coach if you need to leave, or your swimmer can no longer participate in event(s) planned.
MEET VOLUNTEERS: Meet volunteers are asked to check in for your job before the meet begins, even if you are working a 2nd shift job. Contact Katie Richards ([email protected]) if you need to change your volunteer position or have any questions.
BANQUET REMINDER: Join us as we celebrate another amazing summer of swimming on Friday, July 17, from 6:00–8:00 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (211 Union Street, Cary, NC 27511)! Please plan to arrive promptly so we can stay on schedule for dinner, awards, and all the fun festivities. Many of our swimmers enjoy dressing up a bit for the banquet, so feel free to come in your summer best!

CARY CITY MEET RECAP: What a fun day at Cary City Meet! Congratulations to Avery Edgerton for coming in first place in the breaststroke (among over 80 swimmers!) and to so many of our OXH swimmers who achieved personal bests on Saturday. Our Alice in Wonderland themed tent was a smashing success and we were recognized for our creativity by winning the Spirit Award!! Our team finished 11th overall out of 25 teams! Shout out to the coaches, parents, and volunteers for making the Cary City Meet such a success! And thank you to Katie Richards for stepping up on the board to make sure the day was well organized and staffed.
