Swim Team News Week 9 (July 6-12)
As we approach the final two weeks of the swim season, there are lots of announcements with end-of-season activities that are slightly different from our typical week-by-week announcements. Please be sure to register for the end of year banquet (Friday July 17), and let us know if your swimmer wants to swim at the TSA Championship swim meet (Sunday July 19). For the TSA meet, parents are required to serve as their swimmer's coach this year.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK: Our swimmers of the week are: Ally Schisler (7+), Leona Pelc (6U), and Franco Smith (pup). Ally continues to impress Coach Allie with how much she has improved and she cannot wait to keep cheering her on! Leona did an excellent job working to improve all of her strokes this week and is constantly pushing herself to become a better swimmer. Franco did a great job swimming this week, especially at our backstroke practice, he was ready to give it a shot and try his best!
Swimmers of the week receive a gift card in recognition for their hard work. Congratulations Ally, Leona, and Frank!
COACH'S CORNER:
- Coach Allie: Hey Swampfoxxes, our kids braved the heat this week and we had some great practices! I am excited to get back into it this week. With the end of the season coming, I am continuing to fine tune techniques. As always, if you have any questions or concerns reach out at [email protected].
- Coach Sophia: Hello parents! Thank you to everyone who helped me with the crafts last Friday, I am so happy with how everything turned out! As we near the end of the season, we will continue to work on our technique and endurance for all three strokes. For those who will be swimming at Cary City, we will continue to practice swimming full laps with no help. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at [email protected]!
-
Coach Lilly: Hi parents! We worked on freestyle and backstroke this past week, and I was really happy with how much effort the Swamp Pups put into practices! This week will be our second to last week of practices and we'll practice these strokes on the following days:
- Monday - freestyle
- Wednesday - backstroke
- Thursday - freestyle
Additionally, the Swamp Pups will have the opportunity to swim in a freestyle event at this upcoming home swim meet! Please ensure to read the information below to get the details. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach out to [email protected].
END OF SEASON BANQUET: Join us as we celebrate another amazing summer of swimming on Friday, July 17, from 6:00–8:00 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (211 Union Street, Cary, NC 27511)! Our swimmers have spoken—the banquet theme is Italian! 🍝 We'll enjoy a delicious Italian dinner together as we celebrate a fantastic season. Please RSVP in SwimTopia and purchase your banquet tickets (two separate steps!). You'll find the banquet event there, and you'll respond just as you do for swim meets. After submitting your RSVP, you'll be prompted to purchase your tickets—just follow the instructions on the RSVP page. Please RSVP even if your family is unable to attend so we know everyone has been accounted for. RSVPs are due by July 7.
NEXT MEET! Our fifth (and final home) meet is this Tuesday July 7! The Meet Theme is: Red and Black!
- SWAMP PUPS EXHIBITION: Swamp pups will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in the exhibition race after the 6U freestyle event. There will be a coach in each lane to assist swimmers all the way to the finish line, set at 15 yards. Swamp pups should arrive by 6:00 pm. If you plan on attending, please email Coach Lilly ([email protected]) ASAP so we can get an estimated headcount and organize swimmers in their lanes. When you arrive at the meet, please check in outside the Club House with our volunteer. We’ll take a group photo before heading into the pool deck!
- For the rest of the competitive swimmers, please arrive at the usual 4:45pm to check in your swimmer, get settled, swimmers numbered and meet volunteers sign in (even if you are 2nd shift). Warmups will begin at 5:00pm sharp. Meet will start no later than 6p
- If you are a timer, clerk of course, stroke and turn judge, order of finish judge, TSA rep, or meet admin (ie meet officials for both shifts), be sure to attend the officials meeting at 5:45p.
- Please walk or carpool to save parking spaces for our guests.
- The SwampShack is open during meets and offers special food items in addition to what is normally sold (Chick-fil-a sandwiches, Dominos Pizza, and Smoothie King smoothies)
- Please remember that OXH pool rules apply during swim meets. The pool is CLOSED except to swim meet events..
- Be sure to check the heat sheets to ensure your swimmer is listed. And check relays in addition to individual events. Swimmers might swim in a relay of an older age group.
- If your swimmer’s status has changed (especially if they planned to swim and no longer can), please let Coach Allie ([email protected]), Coach Sophia ([email protected]) and the board ([email protected]) know so we can update heat sheets updated.
MEET VOLUNTEERS: Thank you to all our parents who signed up to volunteer this week! Be sure to check in for your job with Katie before the meet begins, even if you are working a 2nd shift job.
