Swim Team News Week 2 May 18-24
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK: Our swimmers of the week are: Jolene Laski and Otis Foss.
- Jolene did an amazing job working on her freestyle and kicking drills this week and Coach Allie is proud of how well she is adjusting to being a 7-8!
- Otis was so kind to all of his teammates, always had a positive attitude, and made sure to include everyone in whatever games the group was playing.
Swimmers of the week receive a gift card in recognition for their hard work (just ask the coaches). Congratulations!
COACH'S CORNER:
- Coach Allie: Hello parents! Thank you guys for bearing with me this week as we adjusted to the cold water, I am crossing my fingers that this week is warmer. Last week we worked a lot on the basics and freestyle, this week we will be transitioning to backstroke and breaststroke. I am already having tons of fun with your swimmers and am excited for the rest of the season! As always, please reach out to my email [email protected] with any questions or concerns :).
- Coach Sophia: Hello everyone! This past week was very off and on with both dryland and in-water practices, but thankfully, it seems like we have gotten past the cold weather and will have much warmer temperatures ahead of us. This past week, I was able to introduce freestyle concepts and practice the basics as much as possible in the cold water. This upcoming week, I would like to focus on introducing backstroke and possibly breaststroke as we prepare for time trials. I look forward to seeing you all this week! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at [email protected]!

You can find the number of points you have signed up for when you navigate to the Swimtopia website (our team site) and link on “My Account” when logged in.
Registration for the swim team remains open through May 31st. We would love to recruit more boys aged 15-18!

Please RSVP for all swimmers and parents who plan to participate! There are a few essential roles that can be signed up for available for folks who will not be supporting younger (under 10) swimmers. Additional volunteer points will be assigned after the event for other parent volunteers. First shift volunteers should report by 8:15 for check in and instructions. Second shift volunteers should arrive by 9:50 to check in and shadow their first shift counterparts and take over at 10 am. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a parent. VOLUNTEER TRAINING: Our Swampfoxx team is in need of a few parents who are interested in being trained as a Stroke & Turn Judge and/or Starter. The Tarheel Swim Association offers trainings for these roles and any parent interested is encouraged to attend an upcoming training: https://tsa.swimtopia.com/clinics
Parents interested in being trained in all other volunteer roles are welcome to shadow during Time Trials and/or reach out to Katie Richards ([email protected]). Thank you to all our families for being willing to pitch in and make our swim meets run smoothly!
VOLUNTEER SIGN UPS: Be sure to check the Swampfoxx Calendar for new volunteer opportunities: https://oxxfordhunt.swimtopia.com/swim_meets. New opportunities are being added as they become available. We are still looking for a lead for Cary City Meet (extra points!!) - please reach out to Katie Richards ([email protected]) if you're interested or have any volunteer related questions.
SWAMPSHACK: Thank you to Megan Van Hook and Sarah Edgerton who have been hard at work getting the Swamp Shack ready for business. Swamp Shack snack cards can be purchased with a credit card online at: https://oxxfordhunt.swimtopia.com/shop. There is a QR code at the shack too. Just show the lifeguard your receipt and he/she will write out your card.
TEAM SHIRTS & SWIM CAPS: We are currently working to get the official 2026 team tee shirts printed and ready for our first swim meet! Each swimmer receives a shirt included in their registration. We can provide new Swampfoxx swim caps for any swimmer that does not yet have one, or has a cap break (either latex or silicone). Shirts and caps will be distributed at practices when they arrive in a few weeks. Extra 2026 shirts are available for sale for only $20 in select sizes!
TEAM SWIM SUITS: Swim suits are available at Kiefer Aquatics, located in the Harris Teeter plaza at Maynard and High House Rd. Team suits are not required, but we ask swimmers to wear black or red for meets if possible. When you go to Kiefer Aquatics, you just tell them you are on the Oxxford Hunt Swampfoxxes and they will show you the team suits. Children can try it on in the store. There is also an exchange box/tub available at practices for families to donate suits and/or swim team apparel that no longer fits. Families are welcome to take any items that might fit their child.
Please let us know what questions you may have or use other parents as a resource, either in person at the practice or via our FB parents forum!
