Swim Week 10 (July 15-21)

CARY CITY MEET! What an amazing, fun, muddy and successful day on Saturday at the Cary City Meet! Oxxford Hunt swimmers, coaches and parents went all out and it resulted in an 13th place finish of 25 teams! Races were won, and many swimmers got personal bests. Avery Edgerton placed 1st in breaststroke and Bobby Elder placed 2nd in backstroke among all the Cary City swimmers! Our relay teams also put up some great points! Huge shout out to Dave and Carla Delcambre, Jeannette and Chris Selvaggi and the coaches for creating the amazing Mack Truck, Radiator Springs signs, stoplight and all the themed decorations. Also thanks to the coaches for leading the kids in the dancing and singing, and all the parents and kids who came out and made the day memorable!! Swimmers who earned medals or ribbons will receive those at our swim banquet.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK: Our swimmers of the week are: Lucas Brosseau and Ian Lowther. Lucas did great at the Cary City meet this past Saturday and always sets a great example at practices. Ian had strong swims at the Cary City meet and is a great team player. Swimmers of the week receive a gift card in recognition for their hard work.

COACH'S CORNER:

  • Coach Audrey: Hello families! Thank you to all of the swimmers and families that went to the Cary City meet! We are gearing up for our final home meet on Tuesday with practices on Monday and Tuesday morning. The dedication and hard work of our swimmers have truly paid off, and I'm excited to celebrate their hard work this week. As always, if you have any questions or need to make changes to the meet lineups, please email me at [email protected].
  • Coach Sophia: Hello parents! Congratulations to everyone who swam at Cary City this past Saturday, it was so nice to have so many 6 and unders turn out for the meet. This next week, we only have practice on Monday and Tuesday morning before our last meet. We will work a little on our technique, but this last week will be a little more relaxed. I look forward to seeing everyone at our last meet and the banquet this week! Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at [email protected]!
  • Swamp Pups: Hello parents! We will have our last swamp pup practice this Monday. I had a few parents reach out asking if they could still attend practice even if their days are on Wednesday and Thursday and that is totally okay. We will have our exhibition race for swamp pups at the swim meet this Tuesday. Thank you to all the parents that reached out to let me know if you will be attending. Please get there at no later than 6pm for the exhibition event so we can get everyone organized. I look forward to seeing everyone at the last practice and the swim meet this week! Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at [email protected]!

FINAL PRACTICES: Practices will be held Monday (morning and evening) and Tuesday (morning) this week (July 15-16). The final swim meet on Tuesday marks the end of the summer swim team practices.

NEXT MEET! Our final meet is at HOME against Bella Casa. The Meet Theme is: Red and Black

  • For our final home meet we will be recognizing our high school swimmers who are seniors, and our swamp pups will join us for exhibition races.
  • Arrive at 4:45pm to get settled, swimmers numbered and meet volunteers sign in (even if you are 2nd shift). Warmups will begin at 5:00pm sharp. Meet will start no later than 6p
  • Swim meet officials meeting at 5:45pm outside of pool entrance
  • Please walk or carpool to save parking spaces for our guests. Consider parking on Trappers Run to leave Fallsworth and parking lot for the other team
  • To try and beat the heat, parents may wear a swim suit for a half time jump in. Thanks to Dan & Dana Cassell for bringing two large barrel fans and setting up misters for our team.
  • Please remember that OXH pool rules apply during swim meets. The pool is CLOSED except to swim meet events, which means no one should be in the deep end or the shallow end. We recognize it can be challenging to keep track of your swimmers while working a shift, but please remind your swimmers to follow the rules at the pool.

Food and concessions: On meet day we offer special food items in addition to what is normally sold in concessions

ConcessionPrice Meal Deal - Includes chips & drink
Pizza by the slice (Dominos)$3.50$5.00
Chick-fil-A sandwich$6.00$7.50
Smoothie (Smoothie King)$5.00
  • If your swimmer’s status has changed (especially if they planned to swim and no longer can), please let us know ASAP. Coach Audrey ([email protected]) and Coach Sophia ([email protected]) need to adjust the heat sheets and having as much time as possible to do that is very helpful. You can copy the board ([email protected]) so that we can try to get heat sheets updated before they are printed. We understand kids can get sick at any point and sometimes meets can be overwhelming, so please just communicate with a coach if you need to leave, or your swimmer can no longer participate in event(s) planned.
  • OXH Swampfoxx high performance tee shirts will be available for sale at the beginning of the meet, see Becca Pelc. You can also order ahead online on our merchandise page and pick up at the meet!
  • The last remaining tickets for our No Fuss Fundraising Raffle will be available at the meet - and winners will be pulled! Check out the list of prizes or purchase your $15 tickets online now: oxxfordhunt.swimtopia.com/shop/128666.

MEET VOLUNTEERS: We ask that if you have a swimmer competing, at least one parent plans to volunteer at each swim meet. We want all families to do their part to help, and we have more jobs to fill when we are the ‘home team’. We are still in need of a 6U Kid Pusher (single shift) and 7+ Kid Pusher (2nd shift) for tomorrow's meet. If you have a swimmer competing, please sign up for a volunteer position. Contact Katie Richards ([email protected]) if you need to change your volunteer position or have any questions.

BANQUET: LET’S TACO ‘BOUT CELEBRATING OUR SWIM SEASON! We look forward to celebrating the end of another amazing summer swim season on Friday, July 19 from 6pm - 8pm for the annual swim team banquet at Ritter Park. Please share your photos from this season for the banquet slideshow! https://photos.app.goo.gl/oZvwUUqKgQKtpMAK9

RECRUITING BOARD MEMBERS: The Swampfoxxes are looking for nominations for both elected and non-elected Board positions. If you are interested in being more intricately involved in our awesome swim team, or if you know someone who you wish to nominate, please consider completing this brief interest form: https://forms.gle/EPYEK7GZTJ8rhiTAA. Most pressing is a nomination for Treasurer - Tim Pelc has been pulling double duty as president and treasurer this year! Please submit nominations this week so we can vote in a full slate on Friday, 7/19 at the banquet! We cannot operate without our amazing parent volunteers!

LIVE ACTION PHOTOS AND FACEBOOK PAGE: You’ve probably seen the wonderfully talented Elena Movchan (Adam and Anastasia’s mom) taking photos at meets. The link to her photos is on the team website and can be found directly here https://evm-photo.com/swampfoxxes-2024. Please be sure to credit Elena and her business when using photos. At the end of the season, there will be an opportunity to purchase 8.5 x 11” booklets from the season. More information will come in the next week or two.

PLEASE CHECK THE TEAM COMMUNICATIONS BOX! Ribbons from swim meets are all in the black Team Communications Box. The Box lives in the Swamp Shack and can sometimes be found on the pool deck during practices. Parents should try to check the box at least once a week during the swim season. Thank you!

Please let us know what questions you may have or use other parents as a resource, either in person at the practice or via our FB parents forum!
