Week 7 Swim Team News (June 24-30)
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK: Our swimmers of the week are: Jolene Laski and Miriam Galloway! Jolene has shown a lot of progress in the water and has worked hard to improve her technique. Miriam listens to directions well and is constantly asking for feedback on specific skills. Swimmers of the week receive a gift card in recognition for their hard work.
COACH'S CORNER:
- Coach Audrey: Hello families! We had a great home meet this past week. I am looking forward to the upcoming meet. In practice, we have been working on breastroke kicks, relay starts and building endurance. Morning practices have been going well and we’ve seen a lot of swimmers participate in double practices! I hope the swimmers keep up the good work! Feel free to reach out for anything at [email protected].
- Coach Sophia: Hello parents! This past week we have been working on floating on our backs and breathing to the side. All of the kids have been working super hard and I have seen a lot of improvement. This past meet was a close one and I am so proud of all the swimmers that participated. This next week I plan on working more on our starts and really focusing on making sure our breaststroke is legal. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at [email protected]!
- Swamp Pups: Hello parents! This past week we have been working on kicking in streamline and trying to get our feet behind us without any help. A few swimmers still seem to be a little nervous about getting their face in the water, so any practice you can do outside of swamp pups would be really appreciated. This next week we will continue on trying to get their feet up by themselves and hopefully we can start incorporating arms as well. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at [email protected]!
MEET RESULTS: You can find the meet results in the Swimtopia app, and a PDF report is also available on our website, under past events.
NEXT MEET! Our next meet is Tuesday June 25!
We are the away team and will travel to Haddon Hall. Address is: 1101 Haywards Heath Lane, Apex 27502
The Meet Theme is: Caribbean (we are joining their theme!)
- Arrive at 5:00pm to get settled, swimmers numbered and meet volunteers sign in (even if you are 2nd shift).
- Swimmers should wear their team suit if they have them (or a black or red suit to match the team), swim cap (which will be available at the meet), and goggles.
- Haddon Hall Food: They will be selling pizza, Chick-fil-A sandwiches, drinks, chips and snacks. They accept cash and card. They will also have coolers with ice water so you can bring your refillable water bottles to reduce waste! Kona Ice will be sold (in the parking lot).
- Haddon Hall Parking: Park in the main parking lot. Don’t park on the lake side of the street - there are ‘No Parking’ signs and tickets have been issued in the past. Please be respectful of fire hydrants and residence driveways.
- Seating: Please bring chairs. There is 1 small canopy area but other than that there is no shade. Feel free to bring umbrellas or a pop-up canopy for shade.
- Swim meet officials meeting at 5:45pm outside of pool entrance
- Heat sheets will be on display on a board at the meet (coaches and several volunteers will also have these to do their jobs, like kid pushers, clerk of course, etc), showing the lane and heat that each swimmer will be in. Please check relays in addition to individual events. Swimmers might swim in a relay of an older age group when there are not enough swimmers in that age group to make a team of 4.
- If your swimmer’s status has changed (especially if they planned to swim and no longer can), please let us know ASAP. Coach Audrey ([email protected]) and Coach Sophia ([email protected]) need to adjust the heat sheets and having as much time as possible to do that is very helpful. You can copy the board ([email protected]) so that we can try to get heat sheets updated before they are printed. We understand kids can get sick at any point and sometimes meets can be overwhelming, so please just communicate with a coach if you need to leave, or your swimmer can no longer participate in event(s) planned.
MEET VOLUNTEERS: Thank you to all our parents who signed up to volunteer this week- all our jobs are full! Contact Katie Richards ([email protected]) if you need to change your volunteer position or have any questions.
CARY CITY MEET! The annual Cary City Invitational Meet will be on Saturday July 13th at Scottish Hills Recreational Club. This is a great tradition for our Swampfoxxes, especially since we have won the coveted Spirit Award Trophy 7 of the last 9 years! More info to come, but here are some highlights:
- This year’s meet theme is Disney Pixar Cars! Coaches are working on designing t-shirts and props for the event.
- Fees are $6.00 per individual event and $12.00 per relay event. Oxxford Hunt will cover the cost of the relays. Relays will be composed after entries are compiled. You must state your swimmer availability for relays when you register for the meet.
- Swimmers and families will be able to purchase themed t-shirts for the event.
- Payment for both the individual events and the t-shirts will be done in the team store. More information will be coming soon! Be on the lookout this week as we will likely need registration and shirt sizes by this weekend (June 28-30).
- Swimmers ages 6 & Under may register for no more than two individual events. Please note that all 6&Unders must swim 25 yards independently.
- Swimmers ages 7 & Up may register for no more than three individual events.
- Volunteer needs will be based on swimmers, but expect there will be a need for parent volunteers for the meet.

PIZZA FUNDRAISER: Have a Friday pizza night at the pool on June 28 and support your favorite neighborhood swim team at the same time! Families can pre purchase Salvio's Pizza from our website (https://oxxfordhunt.swimtopia.com/pizza-fundraiser) for a discounted price of $12.00 per large pizza (order by Tuesday, June 25). We will also have free lemonade and freezee pops! The fundraising committee will launch our No Fuss Raffle - each $15 No Fuss donation gives you a raffle ticket for a chance to win a donated prize. Thanks to Salvio's for sponsoring!
MARK SWIMMER AVAILABILITY: It is important for all swimmers to declare their attendance for meets (select meet entry for each meet online). This should always be done at least one week prior to a meet so the coaches can properly plan the heat sheets and minimize changes. Please mark your swimmer for the Tuesday 7/2 meet by this Tuesday 6/25. Attendance will close on Friday 6/28.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE NEWS: The social committee has summer fun planned for our swimmers throughout the season. Save the date for our Ice Cream Social following 5pm & 6pm practices on Friday July 12.
TEAM SHIRTS & SWIM CAPS: Each swimmer receives a team shirt and swim cap included in their registration. Team shirts are being distributed at most afternoon practices, see Katie Herndon for pick up. If you still haven’t received a swim cap, check in with Katie Herndon, she will have some extras at each meet for swimmers that might not have attended previous meets. Additional caps are available for purchase on our website as well. Extra 2024 team shirts are now available for sale on our website under merchandise.
OTHER TEAM MERCH FOR SALE: Custom Swampfoxx Swag is available through our Team Store on SwimOutlet. We have items with last year’s logo and this year’s logo available. If you don’t see a customized item you want, please reach out to Katie Herndon, she’d be happy to add any item that’s available for customization on SwimOutlet. Please note that items purchased through this site will be shipped directly to you and may take 1-2 weeks to receive due to the extra time needed for customization.
MORNING PRACTICES are available 9-10a daily except Wednesdays after Tuesday evening meets.
Please let us know what questions you may have or use other parents as a resource, either in person at the practice or via our FB parents forum!
