Week 6 Swim Team News

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK: Our swimmers of the week are: Teddy Schmidt and Taylor Weiner. Teddy always shows up to practice ready to swim and is so polite to all of the coaches. Taylor did a great job during practice and took feedback well from the coaches. Swimmers of the week receive a gift card in recognition for their hard work.

COACH'S CORNER:

  • Coach Audrey: Hello parents! We're thrilled about our first victory at our first official swim meet this past Tuesday. Since then, we've been working on flip turns and starts in preparation for our upcoming meet. Until we can ensure that we can have meets past 8:30pm we are making changes to the lineup for the June 18th meet. Each swimmer will participate in three events instead of four for a smooth and timely meet. Please don't hesitate to reach out and ask any questions about the swim meet or our training practices at my email [email protected].
  • Coach Sophia: Hello parents! This past week we worked a lot on fine-tuning the individual strokes and I have seen a lot of progress from each swimmer. Our first swim meet went really well and I am so proud of all of our swimmers! This next week we have our first home swim meet and due to timing restrictions, our swimmers will only be able to swim two strokes. This week I plan on trying to get the swimmers to be able to swim with less help from the coaches. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at [email protected]!
  • Swamp Pups: Hello everyone, this past week I have seen a lot of improvement from the swamp pups as we have slowly started to move into kick with streamline. Now that we are a few weeks in, I might start testing out kids with the 6 and unders based on skill level. This next week many coaches will be out on vacation which will potentially affect practices so be sure to be on the lookout for any alerts to changes in practices. Coach Clay will continue to lead our practices and I will continue to step in for the second half of practice. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns at [email protected]!

FIRST MEET!

Our first home meet is this Tuesday June 18 and the meet theme is: Western!

  • Arrive at 4:45pm to get settled, swimmers numbered and meet volunteers sign in (even if you are 2nd shift). Warmups will begin at 5:00pm sharp. Meet will start no later than 6p
  • Swim meet officials meeting at 5:45pm outside of pool entrance
  • Please walk or carpool to save parking spaces for our guests. Consider parking on Trappers Run to leave Fallsworth and parking lot for the other team
  • Please remember that OXH pool rules apply during swim meets. The pool is CLOSED except to swim meet events, which means no one should be in the deep end or the shallow end. We recognize it can be challenging to keep track of your swimmers while working a shift, but please remind your swimmers to follow the rules at the pool.
  • Food and concessions: On meet day we offer special food items in addition to what is normally sold in concessions
ConcessionPrice Meal Deal - Includes chips

& drink

Pizza by the slice (Dominos)$3.50$5.00
Chick-fil-A sandwich$6.00$7.50
Smoothie (Smoothie King)$5.00
  • If your swimmer’s status has changed (especially if they planned to swim and no longer can), please let us know ASAP. Coach Audrey ([email protected]) and Coach Sophia ([email protected]) need to adjust the heat sheets and having as much time as possible to do that is very helpful. You can copy the board ([email protected]) so that we can try to get heat sheets updated before they are printed. We understand kids can get sick at any point and sometimes meets can be overwhelming, so please just communicate with a coach if you need to leave, or your swimmer can no longer participate in event(s) planned.

MEET VOLUNTEERS: We ask that if you have a swimmer competing, at least one parent plans to volunteer at each swim meet. We want all families to do their part to help. We are still in need of an announcer and kid pusher for second shift for Tuesday's meet. If you have a swimmer competing, please sign up for a volunteer position. Contact Katie Richards ([email protected]) if you need to change your volunteer position or have any questions.

MARK SWIMMER AVAILABILITY: It is important for all swimmers to declare their attendance for meets (select meet entry for each meet online). This should always be done at least one week prior to a meet so the coaches can properly plan the heat sheets and minimize changes. Please mark your swimmer for the Tuesday 6/25 meet by this Tuesday 6/18. Attendance will close on Friday 6/21.

MORNING PRACTICES (9-10a daily except Wednesdays) started today, Monday June 17! Swimmers may attend both morning and evening sessions. There is no morning swim practice on Wednesday mornings after Tuesday evening meets.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE NEWS: The social committee has summer fun planned for our swimmers throughout the season. We kicked off with Icees on Friday 6/7 and had donuts and juice this morning to kick off morning practices. Join us TONIGHT Monday 6/17 for Nacho Night following the 5pm & 6pm practices. And save the date for our Ice Cream Social following 5pm & 6pm practices on Friday July 12.

PIZZA FUNDRAISER: Have a Friday pizza night at the pool on June 28 and support your favorite neighborhood swim team at the same time! Families can pre purchase Salvio's Pizza from our website (https://oxxfordhunt.swimtopia.com/pizza-fundraiser) for a discounted price of $12.00 per large pizza (order by Tuesday, June 25). Look for more details from our Fundraising Committee in next week's email. Thanks to Salvio's for sponsoring our night!

TEAM SHIRTS & SWIM CAPS: Each swimmer receives a team shirt included in their registration and they are being distributed tonight at swim practice. Each swimmer also should have received a Swampfoxx swim cap (either latex or silicone). Caps were distributed at Time Trials. If you didn’t get one, check in with Katie Herndon, she will have some extras at each meet for swimmers that need one. Additional caps are available for purchase as well. Extra 2024 team shirts will also be available for sale once our swimmers have received theirs.

OTHER TEAM MERCH FOR SALE: Custom Swampfoxx Swag is available through our Team Store on SwimOutlet. We have items with last year’s logo and this year’s logo available. If you don’t see a customized item you want, please reach out to Katie Herndon, she’d be happy to add any item that’s available for customization on SwimOutlet. Please note that items purchased through this site will be shipped directly to you and may take 1-2 weeks to receive due to the extra time needed for customization.

Please let us know what questions you may have or use other parents as a resource, either in person at the practice or via our FB parents forum!
