Week 8 Swim Team Updates

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK:

Our swimmers of the week are: Caroline Cassell and Linus Mapes!! Congratulations to these swimmers for putting their best foot forward in all of the practices they attended this week, and encouraging others to join them!!

COACH'S CORNER:

  • Coach Hope: Hello parents! This was another fantastic week, and another win in the books. I am so proud of our swimmers this season and how great they are performing. We are now able to work on smaller, yet important, parts of races outside of the strokes. This past week we focused on underwaters, which will only put our swimmers in front of the competition. Looking into the next week, the deadline for Cary City sign ups is approaching (see below). Growing up I always looked forward to Cary City; it was my favorite meet of the season. I urge everyone who is available to sign up and have this amazing experience! We have a great theme and amazing volunteers working to make our tent look spectacular. Now we just need the swimmers to come do their thing!! If there are only questions about it I would be happy to answer. Please sign up if you haven’t already! Thank you for another great week!
  • Coach Sophia: Hello everyone! Last week was a really good week and I’m happy to say we are 3-0 now! I hope to see more of our 6U show up for our meet next Wednesday. Since our meet is on a Wednesday this week, our swamp pup practice will be moved to Thursday, July 6. Additionally, we will have morning practice Wednesday, and will not have it on Thursday. The deadline for Cary City signups is this Wednesday, July 5. I strongly encourage swimmers that are comfortable swimming a full lap to sign up for their preferred strokes. This next week I hope to work on technique while strengthening endurance in all of the strokes. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns!

MEET THEME: The meet theme for this week is: RED, WHITE, AND BLUE!! For our meet the week of July 4th I want to see everyone's most patriotic American spirit!

MEET VOLUNTEERS: We ask that one parent plan to volunteer at each home swim meet. We want all families to do their part to help. There is a wide variety of jobs to fit the needs of most families. The job sign up page is on the Swimtopia website: https://oxxfordhunt.swimtopia.com/swim_meets. Contact Diane Johnson ([email protected]) if you need to make changes to your job.

MARK SWIMMER AVAILABILITY: It is important for all swimmers to be declared the attendance for meets. This should always be done at least one week prior to a meet so the coaches can properly plan the heat sheets and minimize changes. Please mark your swimmer for next week’s meet (7/11) by Tuesday 7/4 (July 4th!). Attendance will close on Friday 7/7.

July 4th PARTY: We’ll be having our annual 4th of July party on Tuesday July 4 from 12-4pm. The SwampShack will be open throughout the event. We'll have a DJ from 12-2pm and fun pool games starting at 1pm. Sign ups are available for food donations and volunteer positions on the website (https://oxxfordhunt.swimtopia.com/swim_meets/509855/shift_assignment). We’ll need your help to make it a success! We look forward to seeing you there!

CARY CITY MEET: The 40th annual Cary City Invitational Meet will be on Saturday July 15th at Cary Swim Club (rain date Sunday 7/16). This is a great tradition for our Swampfoxxes to participate in. Especially since we have won the coveted Spirit Award Trophy 6 of the last 8 years! T SHIRTS MUST BE ORDERED BY TUESDAY, ENTRIES DUE BY 6PM WEDNESDAY! In the sign up calendar, select your swimmer's age group and register them for up to 3 events if they are age 7+ or 2 events if they are 6 and under. At the bottom of the registration page, be sure to select a Spongebob t-shirt for each member of your family! Liz Miller has created this very helpful guide on how to register and pay for registration and the t-shirts.

The Cary City Meet committee is hard at work planning the tent decorations.

  • Some things that are needed to complete the look include cardboard boxes and pool noodles (especially those that are cracked/broken).
  • Volunteers are also needed to help with a kid's craft (jellyfish made out of paper plates and streamers) after practices on Friday July 7th.
  • A volunteer is needed to create some flower temporary tattoos (see attached image)
  • Contact Liz Miller or Carla Delcambre if you are interested in helping create the SpongeBob look for our tent to help us win the spirit award!

PLEASE CHECK THE TEAM COMMUNICATIONS BOX! Ribbons from swim meets along with swimmer team shirts and swim caps that have not been picked up, and Kona Ice Vouchers for swimmers who were not at the pool on 6/30, are all in the black Team Communications Box. The Box lives in the Swamp Shack and can sometimes be found on the pool deck during practices. Parents should try to check the box at least once a week during the swim season. Thank you!

BANQUET: LET’S TACO ‘BOUT CELEBRATING OUR SWIM SEASON! It’s hard to believe we are down to the final weeks of the season! Please be sure to save the date Friday, July 21 from 6pm - 8pm for the annual swim team banquet at Ritter Park. Moe’s Southwest Grill will be catering the event. Food, drinks, and desserts will be available. The cost is $12.00 per person, and free for anyone ages 3 and under. Payment can be made online or a check can be given to a swim board parent at practice. Please RSVP and submit payment at oxxfordhunt.swimtopia.com/2023-banquet by July 18.
