Week 7 Swim Team Updates
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK:
Our swimmers of the week are: Isabelle Gorni and Mathias Ursut! Congratulations to these swimmers for their hard work and staying focused on the practice at hand this week!
COACH'S CORNER:
- Coach Hope: Hello parents! Thank you for another amazing week! And another win!! We are doing great, and I would like to keep it that way. We are continuing the train of many best times this past Tuesday. I’m so proud of our swimmers this week preserving through the challenges of the weather this week. Looking into next week, we can hope it looks a little nicer. In our practices we’re just going to keep doing what we’re doing. Staying consistent and tweaking small stroke technique concerns. Thank you for another great week!
- Coach Sophia: Hello everyone! This past week was great and all the swimmers are improving a lot! I will be continuing to work on all three strokes but will probably focus more on backstroke and breaststroke. I am really proud of all of the swimmers that swam at our past meet and hope to see more sign up for the next meet. Our next make-up swamp pup practice will be this Thursday (6/29). Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns!
MEET THEME: The meet theme for this week is: Jersey Out!! Wear your favorite team or player's jersey; or even your own! We want to see everyone dressed up and spirited for Tuesday night!
AWAY MEET: Tuesday June 27 at Brighton Forest
(Address: 2625 Brighton Forest Drive, Apex, NC 27539 - about 25 minutes from Oxxford Hunt)
Reminders:
- Arrive by 5:15pm to get settled and numbered
- Warmups will begin at 5:30pm sharp.
- Meet will start no later than 6p
- Swim meet officials meeting at 5:45pm outside of pool entrance
- Swimmers should wear their team suit, swim cap, and goggles. Note: any swim cap you wear must be plain or an Oxxford Hunt team cap.
- Parking: Brighton has very limited parking and very narrow streets. Limited parking will be available in the pool parking lot, dirt/grass lot next to the pool parking lot, around the outer perimeter of the traffic circle on Brighton Forest and then on the streets off of the traffic circle. Please be respectful of folks' lawns and stay off their grass, but park as close to the edge of the road as possible and only park on the right side of the street. Brighton will have volunteers helping to direct parking, and please carpool if you can.
- Food: They are cash only and will offer pizza, Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, chips, candy, soda and water.
- Fun Relay: Brighton would like to do a fun relay with coaches, and parents after backstroke event. Let us know if you are interested in swimming the parent relay!
- Events: Brighton has asked that we limit swimmers to 3 individual events to prevent the meet from running too long so be prepared for your swimmer to only be in 3 individual events instead of 4 this week. There will still be relays at the start and end of the meet, so please check in with coaches and/or kid pushers before you leave to be sure you are not in a final relay.
- Volunteers: Brighton has asked for 2 timers per lane as opposed to our typical 1 timer. Diane sent everyone a message on Saturday and thank you for helping to fill some of those shifts. There are still a few more jobs for Tuesday’s meet: https://oxxfordhunt.swimtopia.com/swim_meets. Contact Diane Johnson ([email protected]) if you need to make changes to your job.
MARK SWIMMER AVAILABILITY: It is important for all swimmers to be declared the attendance for meets. This should always be done at least one week prior to a meet so the coaches can properly plan the heat sheets and minimize changes. Please mark your swimmer for next week’s meet (7/5) by Tuesday 6/27. Attendance will close on Friday 6/30.
TEAM SOCIAL AND FUNDRAISER: On Friday June 30 Kona Ice will be at the pool from 6-7:30pm. Each swimmer (including Pups!!) will get a voucher that can be used for a free Klassic Cup on the 30th (or at any Kona truck around the Triangle this summer). Find Katie Richards to get your voucher (she’s got the team shirts too!) Spread the word to neighbors too - the team receives 10% of sales for anyone who purchases cups.
July 4th PARTY: We’ll be having our annual 4th of July party on Tuesday July 4 from 12-4pm. The SwampShack will be open throughout the event. We'll have a DJ from 12-2pm and fun pool games starting at 1pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
