Practice Day 1: a note on intensity

Parents, it was a great day at our first swim practice! The weather was (just) good enough to be in the water, but getting OUT of the water was quite chilly.

We wanted to convey that our main goal this season is for the swimmers to have a good time and improve their swimming skills throughout the season. Sometimes, the practices can be more intense for the swimmer than expected, and recognizing a struggling or exhausted swimmer can sometimes be tough for the coaching staff. Today we identified a couple swimmers to move into a less intense group, and that seems to be working for them now.
We'd like for you to discuss practice today with your swimmers and if they feel like they are being challenged appropriately, or would be better swimming in a lower (or higher) skill level in the next set of practices. Please convey that information to Coach Hope, Coach Sophia, and if they aren't available, send an email to the board (email below) and they will adjust their practice program to accommodate for them.

Starting tomorrow, we will be building in more 'fun' activities into practices to break up the laps, laps, and more laps we normally swim. We want all swimmers to enjoy this easy week of practice while they get re-acclimated to the water and start getting their swimming bodies back into shape. Next week we'll dial up the intensity very slightly, but continue to mix in fun events.

Again, our goal is for the swimmers to have a positive experience at practice and keep coming back! If you have any questions, please reach out to the board at [email protected]. We receive and reply to all emails sent to that account and are glad to help.

Thanks!
