Week 3 Updates!

COACHES CORNER AND SWIMMER OF THE WEEK:

  • Coach Hope: Hello everyone!! This week was a great week for our swimmers! We finished up building a strong foundation for freestyle, and began to work on the basics for the other three strokes, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. The swimmers did fantastic with learning drills to set up each stroke. This upcoming week we will be having time trials!! I’m so excited to see everyone get up and swim fast for the first time this season! Thank you all again for another great week! I will see you all this week!!
  • Coach Mary: Hi 6&U Parents! This week has been a great week, all the kids have been continuing to improve on their strokes and we were in the water everyday! This past week we primarily focused on breaststroke while still working on backstroke. We will be having time trials on this Tuesday (06/07). I will be running both practice on Monday, kind of doing a mock meet so the kids know what to expect Tuesday and practice each stroke and getting use to the yellow rope. I am so excited for this week and looking forward to see everyone on Monday.
  • Swimmers of the week: Hillary Thomasson and Lee Lowther for continuously going above and beyond and asking to do more!!
  • Meet Theme: For each meet we plan to have a theme to dress up for and make the meet even more fun! Kicking off with trials our theme is tropical!!

TIME TRIALS: Time Trials are this Tuesday June 7!

  • The pool closes to residents at 5p
  • Arrive at 5:15pm to get settled and numbered (real meet arrival will be 4:45p)
  • Warmups will begin at 5:30pm sharp
  • Meet will start no later than 6p
  • Time Trials are run like a real meet. Swimmers should wear their team suit (if they have them, or you want to purchase at All American Swim), swim cap (ordered at https://oxxford-hunt-swim-team.square.site and picked up from Katie Richards) and goggles.
  • Swamp Shack - will be serving food and snacks. Be sure to have cash or purchase a $10 Swamp Shack Card on our (https://oxxford-hunt-swim-team.square.site).
  • Parking - Normal year Home Meets we ask Swampfoxx families to walk/ride bikes to allow parking for the other team. You can continue to do that this year, or if you drive please obey the No Parking signs that will allow Fallsworth Drive to stay open and for cars to have proper access to the road.

MEET VOLUNTEERS: We ask that one parent plan to volunteer at each home swim meet. We want all families to do their part to help. There is a wide variety of jobs to fit the needs of most families. If you are interested in learning about a particular job, you can shadow a more experienced volunteer for part of their shift. Time Trials is a great opportunity to try a new job. Time Trials are on June 7th. At Time Trials, we'll have 'teacher' and 'in training' positions - so if you're new to the team, grab an 'in training' position to learn the ropes. There are currently openings for kid pusher learners, place judge learners and teachers, and a ribbon distributor learner on the job sign up page of the Swimtopia website: https://oxxfordhunt.swimtopia.com/swim_meets. If the position you want to learn is already filled, just let Diane Johnson ([email protected]) know and we can probably have you join the others who are learning.

PASTA PARTY! Our team pasta party will take place the evening before our first swim meet (Monday, June 13 from 5:30-7:30p) at the Clubhouse. Please sign up to bring food and/or help set up, with shifts, or clean up.

SAFETY PROTOCOL: As we move back into a post-COVID-19 swim meet experience, please remember that SWIMMERS SHOULD NOT ATTEND PRACTICE OR MEETS WHEN SICK. If you or your child is sick and you can no longer volunteer for your shift or your swimmer will no longer participate in the meet, please e-mail the board as soon as you can.

SWIM CLINIC: On Saturday, June 11th at 9am, our coaches will be hosting a swim clinic at the pool. This clinic will focus on the trends and disqualifications from the Timed Trials, and will offer swimmers an opportunity to improve. Cost will be $3 per swimmer, please RSVP on the website.

MORNING PRACTICES (9-10a daily) begin Monday June 13, marking the beginning of traditional calendar schools summer break!
